Michael Jordan is engaged to model Yvette Prieto

Charlotte Bobcats majority owner Michael Jordan had something extra special to celebrate this Christmas: he and his longtime girlfriend are now engaged.
A spokeswoman for the basketball legend confirmed Thursday his engagement to Yvette Prieto, a Cuban-American model. She said she could not answer other questions about the couple. No wedding date was announced.
Jordan, 48, and Prieto, 32, have reportedly been dating since 2008.
Jordan, who became the Bobcats' majority owner in 2010, is one of one of North Carolina's most recognizable names worldwide. He was elected to the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 1993 and inducted last year. The couple owns a 5,500-square-foot home in a gated subdivision in Miami. Jordan also owns a 7,000-square-foot condo at The Trust in uptown Charlotte, which he bought last year for $3.15 million.
The couple is said to be private about their relationship, though have been spotted together at events, including Bobcats games. In 2010, Prieto was seen following Jordan as he played in the Quail Hollow Championship pro-am.
The Chicago Tribune said a story about Prieto accompanying Jordan to his 2009 induction to the Basketball Hall of Fame was one of its most-clicked stories that year.
Records show Prieto is a principal with the Miami-based companies Aqua Management and Beet the LBS. She filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2002.
On Thursday, Prieto and Jordan were rumored to be celebrating their engagement on a private yacht in the French Riviera. But a spokeswoman told WCNC-TV, the Charlotte Observer's news partner, that the cruise report was not true.
Prieto was once romantically linked to singer Julio Iglesias Jr.
This would be Jordan's second marriage. He divorced Juanita Jordan in 2006 after 17 years of marriage. The couple has three children. Her reported $150 million-plus settlement was ranked by Forbes as the most-expensive celebrity divorce at the time.
Charlotte Observer news researcher Marion Paynter contributed to this report.
